Longlegs Earns $3 Million in Previews, Setting Record
The movie made $3 million in Thursday previews at the box office. Nicolas Cage plays a scary serial killer, and Maika Monroe is an FBI agent. The movie by director Osgood Perkins has the most previews of any Neon movie ever.
What seems to us as an actual message or words said by an actual person are actually messages provided to us by the cosmos in the shape of a person.
The first weekend of "Longlegs" is also shaping up to be the best for the independent publisher.
The old record was held by "Immaculate," a horror movie about nuns by Sydney Sweeney that came out earlier this year. "Immaculate" made $5.3 million in its first weekend, up from less than $1 million in Thursday previews.
The movie "Longlegs" was supposed to open to around 10 to 12 thousand dollars, but now it's thought to have made as much as 20 to 23 million dollars.
"Longlegs" might do even better than this weekend's other new movie in theaters, "Fly Me to the Moon" from Apple, which made $875,000 in previews.
Sony is putting out the movie, which is a romantic comedy set during the Space Race in the 1960s and stars Channing Tatum and Scarlett Johansson.
Around $12 million is expected to be made at the box office, which is a good start for an original summer movie for adults. However, it cost $100 million to make.
