Nursing assistant becomes sniper: Thomas Crooks' strange Trump assassination plan

Thomas Crooks, a 20-year-old nursing home worker from suburban Pennsylvania, attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump during a rally.

Crooks, once a registered Republican with no criminal record, had recently donated to a progressive voter-turnout campaign.

Trump, 78, was campaigning in Pennsylvania, a key battleground state, for the 2024 presidential election.

On July 3, Trump's campaign announced a rally at the Butler Farm Show grounds near Pittsburgh.

Trump's campaign blamed Biden and Democrats for Pennsylvania's violent crime surge, promising to restore law and order.

During the rally, Crooks fired an AR-15 style rifle from 150 yards away, grazing Trump’s ear, killing one attendee, and critically wounding two others.

Secret Service agents quickly responded and killed Crooks.

Authorities are investigating Crooks' motive, noting his Republican past and recent progressive donation.
