Vegan green smoothie

Blogging about food involves a constant balancing act. Admittedly, it could be just me, as I'm not particularly good at keeping cake around and not eating it.

In recent weeks, I have taken baking too seriously, and as a result, I have overindulged. I mean, it was all in the interest of recipe testing, but I don't think my body minds and is content to store all the extra calories.

Because the weather was terribly hot last week and I couldn't be bothered to make dinner, we decided to start drinking green smoothies for our final meal before bed.

Partly owing to laziness, and partly in an attempt to rebalance my nutrition. Aside from having to clean and trim an absurd amount of spinach every four days, I relished the opportunity to take a break from cooking.

Everything seemed fine at first. The smoothie was satisfyingly substantial thanks to the ground flax seeds, so I didn't go to bed hungry. The abundance of crushed ice made it refreshingly refreshing, which was much needed given the sweltering weather.

The smoothie is pleasantly sweet and fruity, but not overwhelmingly so, as the fruit is simply a vehicle for smuggling loads of oh-so-good-for-you spinach into your bloodstream without your taste receptors screaming in hatred.

Furthermore, vitamin-C-rich oranges aid in the absorption of iron found in spinach, allowing your body to maximize the benefits of this health boost.

We lasted just over a week. After a few days, I started experiencing some unpleasant side effects. When I googled them, I discovered that having too much spinach is a thing! Can you believe it?
